Preparation of the ice track

Winter racing is one of the most spectacular types of outdoor activities in the cold season. It’s one thing to race on skates on a skating rink, it’s quite another when instead of skates there is an armed racing car, and instead of a skating rink there is a flooded track, the circle length of which is more than 1.7 km.

Obviously, the speeds and impressions are quite different.

Our home circuit ADM Raceway every year, on the eve of the winter season, prepares the track for ice racing. And this year will be no exception. Those who have participated in winter races at least once know that good ice coverage on the track is a very important component in getting a full charge of emotions.

So how do you achieve smooth, even ice over such a large area?

So, we tell:

At the first stage, after the snow has covered the entire track, with the help of special equipment, the surface is compacted several times.
After the snow on the surface of the track has become dense and even, trucks with large barrels of water come into play. Every day, for two weeks, they pass the lap of honor and flood the track. Thus, the solid layer of snow becomes icy.
The next step is the "polishing" of the ice surface, using a special frame. The resulting parapets are also framed and brought to the ideal shape.
During the winter season, the autodrome staff maintains its condition, and after each stage of the competition, the whole procedure will be repeated.
