History

The ArtLine Engineering Team made its debut in racing in 1999. From the very beginning, the team viewed racing as a business: winning races was not just a goal within itself, but also a part of promoting sponsors.
In recent years the team achieved something that cannot be measured in prizes awarded or fastest laps. Something even more important than the championship titles of our drivers: the love of its fans, the attention of the press, and the reputation of a constant and dynamically developing organization.

1999—2002: Formula-3

In 1999—2002 Art-Line Engineering competed in the Formula 3 (an international class with 2-liter engines). The team took third place in the very first season, with experienced Italian racer Fabio Babini paving the way to the podium. In 2001 Maurizio Mediani became the first Art-Line Engineering pilot to win the Champion of Russia title. Team members have included Enrico Toccacelo (Italy), Victor Kozankov and Alexander Nesterov. The pilots contributed much to the achievements of Art-Line Engineering. However, the team’s engineers deserve equal credit. The distinguishing characteristics of Art-Line Engineering include continuous work on perfecting racing technology with an eye to specific conditions in Russia, developing new components, and thoroughly analyzing performance results from races and tests. Ferdinando Ravarotto, a well-known Italian expert, was on the team for three years. Working with leading European pilots and engineers was excellent experience for the team members.

1999 Season Results

the Team got second place and Fabio Babini earned a silver medal.

2000 Season Results

Team pilots won 5 pole positions, 4 first places, 3 second places and the vice championship of Russia over 9 stages. Overall, the team received a bronze medal.

2001 Season Results

First places in 8 qualifications and 6 races. The first place for the championship was only lost on paper: Lukoil Racing was able to take the title, claiming that Art-Line Engineering’s racing license paperwork was filed incorrectly.

2002 Season Results

2002 was a critical year. The Formula 3 was preparing to yield to the less expensive Formula 1600. Art-Line Engineering participated in 4 of the 6 stages, winning 3 first places and 1 second place.

2003: Formula 1600

In 2003 Art-Line Engineering made its debut in the Formula 1600 national series. The team closed the season with three “double golds” in a row. Both the team and one of its pilots, Alexander Tyuryumin, became the champions of Russia.

Art-Line Engineering used cars with the Dallara-F393 chassis and a modified VAZ engine (167hpw and 8000rpm) in 2003. The formulas had a 5-speed cam gearbox and a limited slip differential. The team’s design bureau also developed its own suspension system and enhanced the vehicle’s aerodynamics. The cars were equipped with onboard data logging systems.

Relying on experience acquired in the Formula 3, Art-Line Engineering applied modern European racing technologies in the national Formula 1600 class. Season results showed that the selected strategy and the team’s development ideology were correct. While the first races of the Championship of Russia were challenging and did not have strong results, the end of the season was truly triumphal.

For the first time in the history of Russian closed-circuit racing, the pilots of a single team were able to win three “double golds” in a row. The pilots won a total of four first places, four pole positions and five fastest laps. Alexander Tyuryumin and Nikolai Bolshikh Jr. rose to the podium seven times, setting track records at all locations where Formula 1600 races were held. The team achieved up the highest score possible in the Russian Cup: 74 of 74 points.

2004—2006

In 2004 Art-Line Engineering entered two teams in the Championship of Russia: Art-Line Engineering (Victor Antonov and Oleg Kazakov) and Unit Art-Line (Victor Shaitar and David Markozov). In the same season, the team’s main rival, Lukoil Racing, also joined the Formula 1600 and the battle continued. The viewers witnessed an intense fight at every stage of the Championship.

Also in 2004 Art-Line Engineering first tested a carbon-fibre monocoque developed by its design bureau, the ArtTech F1605.

Vitaly Petrov — nowadays the Formula 1 driver – became the Champion of Russia 2005 with ArtLine. Petrov won his title in the very last laps of the Championship’s final race, overcoming Yuri Baiborodov (Lukoil Racing). Victor Antonov and Victor Shaitar participated in all of the races of the season and received the 4th and 7th individual places, respectively. Formula Rus Vice Champion Daniel Mauvet became ArtTech’s test pilot in 2005. Vladimir Labazov and Anton Pankratov tested the water in 2005 in the highest-speed national series.

In 2006 Art-Line Engineering experts designed the first professional racetrack in Russia, Raceway ADM in Myachkovo. Art-Line Engineering still put forward two teams, with the sponsorship of ISTOK Company (Istok Art-Line Racing: Ivan Samarin and Artem Barkhian/Alexander Tyuryumin) and Sitronics Concern (Sitronics Racing: Mikhail Kozlovsky and Victor Shaitar). Sitronics chose the design bureau’s own chassis and in the very first test race of the season Victor Shaitar brought his ArtTech to victory.

2004 Season Results

Each of the pilots won 4 of the 7 Championship stages. The team became the national vice champion and its pilot Victor Antonov received the individual silver medal

2005 Season Results

2007

2007 was a triumphal season or the team. For the first time in history it was able to take away not just the gold from Lukoil, but also the individual silver medal and the team gold. In the middle of the season Istok Art-Line Racing switched to the ArtTech chassis and continued winning. On September 15 in Finland Victor Shaitar, using a Russian formula, passed both Lukoil Racing teams, which were on Dallaras. Shaitar won the joint race of Formula 1600 pilots and over a dozen Finnish pilots on Formula 3 cars, including the teams of Rami Raikkonen and Mika Salo. Ivan Samarin enjoyed a decisive victory in the national championship.

The team chose to spend the entire season of the Finnish Formula 3 championship on ArtTech formulas with 2-liter engines. Russia is also coming back in the Formula 3 class, seeking to become integrated in the North European and consequently worldwide motorsports.

2007 Season Results: Art-Line Engineering won 10 out of 16 races. It received double golds in individual (Ivan Samarin and Victor Shaitar) and team races at the Championship and in the Governor’s Cup, as well as a gold medal at a stage of the Finnish Formula 3 race (Victor Shaitar).

2008

Three significant events had made a season 2008 as outstanding both for the Art-Line, and for all participants or Russian Formula series:

— National championship had been upgraded to Formula 3 Light series, and the calendar was combined with Finnish F3 Cup. Competitions passed on all racetracks of Finland, and in Baltic (Parnu); 19 participants from 5 countries had together shown the present wrestling and unity in aspiration to a victory. After final calculations, the season’s 2008 debutant Vladimir Semenov (ZyXEL RRT) became the winner. Silver of a national series got Ivan Samarin, and bronze — Victor Shaitar. ArtLine Racing became the winner among teams.

— July 2008 ADM Raceway took the first official international event — the Cup of Northern Europe (NEZ Cup) in the Formula 3 series. ArtLine pilot Victor Shaitar won the Silver cup, and the debutant — Vladimir Semenov (Zyxel racing) has ascended to the higher step of a pedestal.

— Championship of Finland passed with the Team’s strong position also: Victor Shaitar participated on Dallara F308 throughout all stages, and by the end of a season with the minimum separation conceded only to the pilot of Finnish ADRF Mika Vakhamiaki, and as a result became the vice-champion.

2008 Season Results:

— ArtLine — Champion in the team offset of CHR Formula3 Light; Silver and bronze in individual offset (Ivan Samarin and Victor Shaitar);

— Victor Shaitar — brings silver for ArtLine in the Cup of Northern Europe and Championship F3 of Finland.

By the end of all competitions ArtLine began an intense training for 2009 — Championship of Germany (ATS Formel-3 Cup), and the continuous improvement of its ArtTech racecar for presentation on the European arenas.

2009

ArtLine debuts in the Championship of Germany — ATS Formel-3 Сup — one of the most prestigious European formula series competitions which had united in a season 2009 pilots from 18 states and teams from seven countries of the world.

This year the European racing community could estimate the work of our designers on advantage. Two ArtTechs F24, equipped with engines OPC-Challendge, led the Team to a victory, and our racer Sergey Chukanov to a title of the Champion of Germany 2009 in trophy offset! Team’s driver from Finland Esse Krohn got 5th prize-winning place after only 4 racing weekends of participation. Victor Shaitar and Dominik Shraml both drove for the team one stage. The extremely important new information and invaluable experience got ArtLine Racing that year.

ArtLine’s management was replenished with our colleagues from Finnish ADRF, and the course on integration into world motorsport became stronger. At last stage of the Cup our engineers tested a new model of a car ArtTech F24 M at Motorsportarena in German Oshersleben — at the wheel — one of the best Russian racers Michael Aleshin.

2010 Season Results: The second year in Germany resulted successively — Srtomos-ArtLine — Champion of ATS Formel-3 Trophy! Rikardo Brutshin — golden prize of German superiority, Alexey Karachev — vice-champion.

2011

The French driver Tom Dillmann, Estonian Antti Rammo and Russians Mikhail Aleshin and Ivan Samarin participate in several races. The Team is occupied with approbation of technical solutions which have to be applied on the new chassis.

Total result 2011 in Trophy — from 3 to 6 place.

Mikhail Aleshin takes Bronze, and at the last race rises to the 6th place of the main Cup ratio.

2012—2014

The Team completely devotes to the work with racecars, and in a season 2013 represents three new cars:

— ArtTech F24-Z5 Formula 3 in which also new decisions for following generation of formulas are tested;
